Zakk Wylde Signs with New Label

Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society has signed a two-album North American deal with E1 Music (formerly known as Koch Records) and will begin recording its new album this month with a release tentatively scheduled for June.

E1 Music VP of Metal Scott Givens says, “Rarely does the opportunity come along to sign an artist as talented, influential and important as Zakk Wylde. I am thrilled to welcome him to the E1 Music Group. He is the future of our company and all of us are battle ready to go to the wall for him.”

The E1 Music label is also home to metal bands Hatebreed, Throwdown and Straight Line Stitch.

Of the new partnership, Wylde said, “I’ve known Scott Givens since I first joined Ozzy, and we've always looked for an opportunity to work together … Everything came together at E1. I cannot wait to bring new BLS Nationwide on E1!"

Zakk Wylde formed Black Label Society in 1994, while still guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne. The band has since released seven studio albums, selling more than a million and a half copies total.

Steven Tyler Cancels Charity Benefit Appearance

Steven Tyler has canceled a benefit appearance to raise money to fight substance abuse among young people, reports the Concord Monitor in Concord, New Hampshire. It’s uncertain whether the event, which was set to take place on Jan. 23 at the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord, will be rescheduled.

"Our agency and the people working with the artist's management all agree that we want to reschedule this date," said Kat Strange, communications director for Child and Family Services, who was a key sponsor of the show. "Given the serious health concerns Mr. Tyler is facing, you just can't pick a day, but that's Plan A."

Tyler has recently been undergoing treatment for addiction to prescription medication.

Titled “Dream On: An Intimate Evening with Steven Tyler,” the event would have included segments in which the Aerosmith frontman sang two songs, played piano, conducted a half-hour Q&A, showed concert footage, and related stories about his own struggles to overcome addiction.

A total of 1,300 tickets were made available for the show, which sold out in four hours. Refunds are being made by mail.
