Pekka Rinne hardly is a household name around the NHL. But if he keeps playing the way he has recently, he might be soon.

The 26-year-old Finn was almost flawless in goal for the Nashville Predators last week, winning all three of his starts, pitching shutouts in two of them. Rinne blanked the Sabres 2-0 in Buffalo on Monday, then stopped all 32 Minnesota shots he faced in a 1-0 home victory Saturday -- a game he played only because starter Dan Ellis hurt his knee in the morning.

Rinne has won his first six decisions, matching the franchise record held by Ellis. He's played (and won) four of the Preds' last five games, and with a 2.24 goals-against average and .917 save percentage, he's going to make it hard for coach Barry Trotz to avoid giving him more playing time.

Satriani vs Coldplay

Being a songwriter myself it's easy to get influenced by other songs or songwriters. There are only so many notes to choose from after all. The similarities are damn close. I will say that the mashups between the two songs are pretty killer. Coldplay could really kick it up a notch by adding some killer licks from Satch!

In court papers filed in Los Angeles on December 4, 2008, guitarist Joe Satriani says Coldplay's song "Vida La Vida" used "substantial original portions" of his 2004 instrumental "If I Could Fly," from his album Is There Love in Space?

Satriani, 52, wants a jury trial and is seeking damages and "any and all profits" for the alleged plagiarism.

The 100 Greatest Singers of All Time

Rolling Stone has a knack for pushing the buttons of music fans when they publish thier "100 Greatest" lists. A few years back they published a list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" and had some glaring omissions. Check out this list and see where your favorites stack up. Perhaps next time they should list the greatest front person or greatest ROCK singer.

Shows this weekend... My gig Saturday night.

Tomorrow night is an end of an era - so to speak. Return to Self and Deadsun will "pulling the plug" Friday night at 12th & Porter. Both bands have a long history in the Nashville rock scene and will be missed. I wish them well and hope they continue to set the scene on fire with more great music and rockin' shows!

Speaking of shows how about a spectacle? I will be joining band JonesWorld for a killer Prince tribute show entitled "A Night In Purple."
